No Limit Texas Hold-em is a strategic poker game. The game is said to have been invented in Robstown, Texas in the early 1900s. The objective of the game is to get all of your opponent’s chips. Each player is dealt 2 hole cards, and to win a player must make the best 5 card hand with those and the 5 community cards. The game is played with anywhere from 2 to 10 players. In order to play, you will need a large table, a standard deck of cards, and poker chips. Once it is determined how many players will be in the game, each player will be designated a certain amount of chips depending on how much they would like to buy-in for. Usually there is a minimum and a maximum buy-in depending on what the blinds will be set at. A good recommendation for blinds is $1-$2 or $2-$5. However, it all depends on how high the stakes are. The big blind is usually 1% of the maximum buy-in. In a cash game, the blinds stay the same for the entire game.
Once the blinds and buy-ins are determined, players will sit around the table and the dealer should deal cards face up around the table until someone gets the first Jack. The player who gets the first Jack will be designated the dealer. The first player to the left of the dealer will be the small blind, and the person to the left of them will be the big blind. This will rotate around the table along with the deal. Once the blinds are out, the dealer deals 2 cards face down to everyone around the table.
Now that the cards are dealt out, the player to the left of the big blind is first to act. They have the option to do 1 of 3 things. They can either fold (if they do not wish to play the hand), call (they just want to match the big blind), or raise the bet. Once they decide on their action, play is moved onto the player to their left, and this continues on around the table until everyone who wants to play matches the highest bet. If there are no raises, the action comes back to the big blind and they have the option to check or raise the bet.
Once the pot is right, meaning everyone who wants to play the hand has matched the highest bet, it is time for the flop. The dealer will take 1 card and place it face down, this card is called the burn card, and then they will proceed to place 3 cards face up. After the flop, the player to the left of the dealer is first to act. All players have the option to check, bet, or fold (if there is a raise). Once the round of betting on the flop is completed, it is time for the turn. For the turn, the dealer places another burn card face down, and then proceeds to place another card face up. Then another round of betting takes place, starting with the person to the left of the dealer. When this round of betting is complete, then it is time for the river (the last card). The dealer places another burn card face down, and then places a card face up. This is followed by one final round of betting. Whoever is still in the hand after the final round of betting, flips their 2 hole cards face up. The person with the best 5 card hand between their hole cards and community cards wins the hand. This is repeated until one person has all of the chips.
